I am not really sure of what I am doing here, but if we start from the universal truth that “no one gives a shit,” I will give this a go and try my best to make this project work — which is basically a way to improve my life and finally “ship” something.
First, Let Me Explain…
I’ll be using this space as a journal to stay accountable. I’ve started so many things in the past only to drop them halfway, but there are a few things that have stayed consistent over time:
- My desire to spend more time with my family
I know this is on most people’s bucket lists, and for some, it’s even a privilege — especially where I come from. I’m determined to succeed in creating more free time to be with my family.
- My desire to learn how to code
I’ve been interested in computers since before high school, but it was in high school that I really discovered web development — back when HTML was a thing (around 2000). I’m not a total stranger to coding; I know my way around PHP well enough to troubleshoot WordPress (cue the angry developers 😆). But I’ve never fully committed to building something from scratch or really mastering development.
- My desire to be healthy
This one is pretty straightforward. I started working from home before it was cool, and honestly, it’s still not widely accepted where I live. Even today (in 2025), banks don’t really trust remote work, which makes taxes a nightmare. But working from home has also made me more sedentary, and my eating habits could definitely improve.
- My desire to ship something
Everyone has ideas and notices issues with existing solutions. I’ve come across something that could help improve my life — and hopefully others’ lives too. My goal is to create an MVP, get real users, and maintain it as a successful product. And then there’s this podcast — it has so many moving parts: regular updates, social media posts, editing, blog content, monetization… yeah, it’s a lot.
- My desire to improve my English
This one might seem odd, but the podcast is also about building confidence when speaking English. When I mess up, my accent gets worse, which just makes it harder to recover. Hopefully, consistent practice will help me improve over time.
That’s My Half-Baked Plan 😅
So, I’ve laid out my goals — but now it’s time to figure out how I’m going to pull this off. Let’s break it down:
- Spending More Time with Family
This one will be tricky. I try to spend as much time as possible with my daughter, but between my main job as a Support Engineer (thankfully, the company culture is amazing, and they respect my time), freelance jobs, and IT management for another company (which also respects my time), it’s hard to balance it all. Points #2 and #4 kind of conflict with this, but I’m working on creating a schedule — and sticking to it.
- Learning to Code
AI makes learning easier — and harder. It explains things quickly, but it also makes it tempting to be lazy and implement things you don’t fully understand. I’m not saying I’m great at prompting, but I can hold my own. And, technically, I’ve completed a full-stack coding bootcamp, so I’m supposed to be a Jr. Fullstack Laravel developer… allegedly. 🤣
- Getting Healthier
This one’s tough. I don’t eat as well as I should (yeah, there’s “beer” in the name of this site), and I don’t exercise much at all. But I’ve heard the saying, “You’d do anything for your family… so why not take care of yourself for them?” It’s time to take that advice seriously.
- Shipping Something Real
By “ship,” I mean building something useful that people will actually use. A product that’s well-received and maintained. That’s the goal. And the podcast itself is a major commitment — regular content, social media posts, editing, blog posts, monetization, and more. It’s going to take real effort.
- Improving My English
Short and simple: consistent content creation (especially video) should help me practice and build confidence. I don’t really mind getting comments about my English — as long as I’m improving.
What’s Next?
That’s it — my half-baked plan to improve my life. 😅 In future posts, I’ll dive deeper into each goal. And yeah, I know you’re probably waiting for an episode… if procrastination doesn’t win, I’ll be working on the first few soon.
